We appreciate the dedication and talents of Michael and Laura McClanahan who serve as webmasters independent from the Executive Committee.
September Dance
We express gratitude to the Giffords for so graciously hosting the pre-dance social hour at their home once again. Kico Rangel’s band was well received and the committee hosted a very festive event. There were 27 couples in attendance, two of whom were guest couples. Joel and Kathy Meyer were the guests of Curt and Kathy Midthun. Eric and Pat Jaakkola hosted Ron and June Thomas.
October Dance
Come visit the Haunted House on October 16, costumes not required. Monice Mohn will once again teach a free dance at 6:30 rior to the meal. Invite your friends. Be sure to mail your checks or email your regrets by October 6.
Membership Changes
Chuck and Mary Nelson have been approved by the Executive Committee for honorary status due to health issues. We wish them healing and return to good health.
Among the changes to the LHDC Constitution that were approved at our annual meeting in May was language added to clarify the process for becoming honorary members---nomination and approval by the Executive Committee at its discretion---most often after death or incapacitation of a spouse. A new requirement is that honorary members will participate in covering the expenses of the club such as bands by paying a prorated member fee per each dance that they attend. For the year 2010-11, this will be $20 per couple in addition to the meal fee that everyone pays. Honorary members do not vote on club matters. There was no change in the associate membership category other than to add a clarification that this status is approved by the Executive Committee upon
application by a couple. Associate members are those who have been active members for 20 years or more and who apply for this status. They pay dues and vote and exercise all other privileges and responsibilities of other members except they are not required to serve on a dance committee each year.
Executive Committee members will be contacting those currently listed as honorary members to clarify their wishes for continued involvement in the club.
Dancing Opportunities
Lynne’s Dance News can be accessed at http://www.jmnelson.com/Lynne/lynne.htm. She provides an extensive listing of dancing venues, some of them free.
Your Executive Committee for 2010 – 2011
Thanks to our outgoing Board members, Myron and Ginny Karki, Mike Fuerst and Eileen Kellen, and John and Carrie Sandgren for their dedicated service for the past three years. We appreciate the time, inspiration, talent and enthusiasm these three couples brought to the Board.
Another May 2010 Constitutional change reduced the Executive Committee from nine to six couples. We welcome one new couple to the Executive Committee, Jeff and Ann Lande. Your Executive Committee for the current year is as follows:
Jack and Patti Marsh Cagle Chair Couple/Newsletter
Roberts and Gael Horner Membership/Directory
Bill Vogel and Marilyn Budde Secretary/Historian/Newsletter
Curt and Betty Gumbrell Treasurer/Bands
Ray and Nancy Seeger Invitations
Jeff and Ann Lande Dance Arrangements
In Memoriam
Our hearts go out to Monica Mohn and Patti Marsh and Jack Cagle in the passing of family members. Monica Mohn’s mother made her transition this summer. Patti Marsh Cagle’s only siblings, a brother and sister, passed within the last four months. A former member, Norval Johnson, also passed away recently. Norval was a very familiar figure in the local piano bar scene for a good share of his life. Jax Café and Nye’s Polonaise Room were among his long-time venues. Norval and Carol were enthusiastic and capable members of the club, serving on the Executive Committee as well as dance committees.
